Pg 37 S 8) He further states that Roberts made propositions to him to quiet the matter. "He says," I forget what he (Maj R) said, but he would make me up for any favor I should do him. I said I did not do that kind of business. He asked me to go to Genl Whipple, with whom I was intimate and get the matter quashed, (Verbatim) I told him Genl W. was out of town, and that Genl Thomas had got hold of it, and it was too late to quash it now (See Vol 1 Pg 37. L 28. & Pg 38 L 1 to 9)
