"That Bt Maj R W. Roberts did endeavor to seduce (Mrs) Lucy H. Bruce, the wife of James Bruce and did endeavor to induce her to leave her husband and did invite her to accompany him to an Assignation House"

The evidence upon which this change is founded and which is the principal evidence to substantiate the same, is found in the statement of Mrs Lucy H. Bruce.

This lady testifies in substance as follows, "Became acquainted with Maj Roberts first in Sept 1866 - Maj Roberts called on me Dec 8, 1866, without invitation. Saw him in Mrs McClellans' room. Mrs M. in next room, door open between, Asked me if I would like James to become a clerk in the Bureau, thought he (Roberts) could get Genl Frederick to take him (Bruce) called several times during Dec to see James and saw me each time - Mrs Nugent or Mrs McClellan being always present talked about
