James going in the Bureau, came finally Christmas Eve, came right upstairs into my room, without sending his card or notifying me, produced a bottle of whisky & said he came to spend Christmas Eve with James. I said James must be on the night cars. I am going to see if he is. Roberts said he would go with me, he said I had better not take my son, it was too cold, did take my son, did not find James. Roberts said, as we were going home, James is running around with some of the women he meets on the Cars. Went on home and played cards. He came again Sunday after Christmas, I was in a bad humor and he asked what was the matter, I told him. He said you are very follish to live with him at all, I'll tell you what you had better do. Take your boy & go into the country. I am going to take some land. I said don't you expect an appointment in the Regular Army. He said no. I will go down first and will send you money. No one will know where you are if you will
