Q. Genl R. Why did you not tell your husband?

A. Mrs B. I told him most of it. That Maj. R wanted me to go south with him. And to go into an assignation house. (I only told about the assignation three weeks ago) I told him at the time of the occurrence, in every instance from the beginning to the End (did not tell of the Kissing for fear)

Q. What did your husband say?
A. Lucy; I have every confidence in you and Maj. R. can't compell you to do anything you don't want to. I would tell him every time.
Q Why did you not insist on your husbands resenting this?
A Because I was afraid James would lose his place.
Q Was this the reason at first?
A At first he was not so bad.
Q Did not his first propositioning insult you?
A Yes, of course
Q James was not then in the Bureau, why did you not insist on his resenting these insults?
A I thought it not worth while, he would not do it again. (See Vol. 1. Pp 13 to 20,)
