0835 18 A. Mrs. McClellan says, "Mr & Mrs Bruce told me they were both anxious that he should go on the cans. Mrs Bruce said she could then get a little liberty to go out at night. and they should then have a little change. She told me this several times, Maj Roberts said he must not as they would not allow it at the Bureau" (Vol 2 Pp 17. L 10 to 18) Mrs McClellan also testifies, that Mrs Bruce said she would like the Major to take a room in their house, but she supposed he would not be satisfied with the way they lived " (Vol 2 Pp 17. L 24 to 28) From the above it would seem that the attentions of Maj Roberts were not offensive to Mrs Bruce, until after Bruce was discharged, but the great point is this: Mrs Bruce says. I told him (Bruce) at the time of the occurrence, in every instance from the beginning to the end, and Bruce answered, Lucy, I have every confidence in you & Maj R cant compell you to do anything you dont want to." I would tell him every time. (Vol 1 Pp 19. L 18 to 24) Oh tempora O Mores, in a land where no man need submit to indignity for [[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]]
