a general way, offered money to some one to get Frederick drunk in his presence. I dont think he wanted to bribe anyone to get F— drunk. I supposed he would like to see him drunk to prefer charges against him "(Vol 1. Pp 46, L 1 to 6) It appears that Maj Roberts did make some such offer, but as the parties are very bitter enemies and the offer was made after Gen'l Frederick was relieved, I shall not comment on it.

Charge Fourth.
"That Maj Roberts while an officer in the U.S. Service, was agent for a swing"

I will consider this no further than to state that I have seen an Affidavit from the Patentee of the swing to the effect that Maj Roberts is not and never has been his Agent.

Charge Fifth.
That "Bt Maj R. W. Roberts took Gov't whisky from the Hosp'l without permission"
