As I shall demonstrate hereafter this amounts to one hundred and thirty five drinks. He adds that he never saw any other gov't liquor drank, unless the Dept Med. officer was present, where a pipe was presented to Dr F.L. Town. (See Vol 1 Pp 8, L 1 to 5)

Being questioned more closely concerning the pipe presentation he states, "just before Dr Tower left, Dr Bell Dr Benson, Dr DeWitt and Genl Ely, (dont know if Gen'l Frederick was there,) some glasses on the table, some whisky going out and in, but dont know for what purpose, but am under the impression strongly that It was drank there "(See Vol 1 Pp 12, L 18 to 23)
