and do believe, that between the months of December 1866 and Feb'ry 1867 dead bodies of patients in the Hosp'l were sold, but I do not believe that any officer of the Hospital had any Knowledge of the act, but that Stewards Crosbie and Cahill were the guilty parties. This belief is founded on a statement made by Dr. Boemand on oath in a previous investigation; which statement was by direction of the Ass't. Commissioner stricken from the record [[crossed out]] if it occurred at all [[/crossed out]] for the reason that it occurred if it occurred at all, under the administration of Gen'l J. C. Davis, Ass't. Com'r. & while Dr Town was Surgeon in Charge of the Hospital. My belief was strengthened by the very bad conduct of Hospital Steward Cahill when called upon to testify.

In view of the fact, that if such crime was committed it reflects on the character of officers of the Army then in charge and responsible, I respectfully request that I be excused from further
