Memorandum of investigation of charges against Dr. R.A. Bell A.A. Surg. Freedmen's Hospital Louisville Ky & Maj. R.W. Roberts A.I.A. Comr, Louisville Ky.

June 15th James Bruce forwards statements and affidavits showing that he was discharged from his clerkship in the Bureau through the hatred of Maj Roberts and Dr. Bell — charges Maj. R. with attempting to seduce his wife; and Dr. Bell with drunkenness and disloyalty. Referred June 15th to the Asst. Comr. of Ky. by him to Maj. B.P. Runkle, A.I.G. for investigation and report. Recd back with report at Bureau R.F. Washington Aug. 3d 1867.

June 21. 67. A petition is received signed by Jos. Bruce, Thos. J. Griffiths M.D. and twenty four others, charging Dr. Bell with affiliating with rebels; — having in the hospital as medical cadets four men who had been in the rebel Army; — permitting Dr. Benson (rebel) to lecture in the hospital; and denying there privileges to union Surgeons —

Referred June 24th to Asst. Comr. of Ky and by him referred to Maj. Runkle A.I.G. for investigation and report. Received back Bureau R.F &c Washington Aug 3rd, with full report of Major Runkle and copy of all the evidence in the case. —
