A. M.B. At first he was not so bad.

Q. R. Did not his first propositions insult you?
A.M.B. Yes, of course.

Q. R. James was not there in the Bureau, why did you not 5 insist of his resenting these insults?
A.M.B. I thought it not worth while. he would not do it again!

Q.R. What happened after your husband's discharge?
A. M.B. After the discharge was decided upon, he came 10 to the house and said "I hope if James leaves the Bureau, as it is no fault of mine, but Gen'l Ely's you will not tell what has occurred between us. I will do all I can for you and your boy" "You have acted ungentlemanly all the way 15 through and I am determined to see James through now" I said "He was discharged without cause" He said "All are against me now" and left. 

Q. by Mr Bruce  State what you know about Maj. Robert 20 undermining General Frederick?

A. M.B. He wrote things in my house I saw them, he said he would send them to Washington, that Gen'l Frederick got drunk on Gov't Whisky, said he would give $15 to any one who would 25 get Gen'l Frederick drunk. He said he had "put people to watch Frederick, and would never 27 rest "till he got him out of the Bureau"
