Statement under oath of Bt Maj R.W. Roberts

Q. What is your name, age and occupation?
A. R.W. Roberts, Age 41 years, 1st Lieut, 12th V.R.C. Bt Maj U.S.V. Sub Asst Com'r Louisville Sub Dist Ky. Bureau R.F. and A. Lands

Q. What if anything had you to do with the appointment of James Bruce as clerk in the office of the Louisville Sub District?
A. I introduced him to Gen'l Frederick but did nothing more.

Q. Did you not recommend or use your influence to procure his appointment to the office?
A I introduced, but did not recommend him that I remember of. I talked over the matter with Capt Brown, That is all.

Q. Was Mr Bruce a clerk in your office and had you any control over him?
A. He was not a clerk in my office. I had no control over him prior to the 23rd of April.

Q. Did you ever find fault with Bruce or have reason to be dissatisfied with him after you became head of the Bureau?
A. He was in Capt Brown's Office, and I held him (Brown) responsible for the business of that Office.
