Q. Do you know Mrs. Lucy  H. Bruce?
A. Have known her since October 1866. 

Q. Did you ever make a dishonorable proposition to her?
A Never.

Q. Were you in her room the night before Christmas 1866?
A No. I was not in her room, but in MRs McLellans room, and in the dining room.

Q Who did you go to see?
A Mrs Bruce, Mr and Mrs McLellan

Q What did you carry with you?
A Nothing more than I ordinarily carry.

Q Do you ordinarily carry a bottle of whisky with you?
A No sir. Nor had I a bottle that night.

Q. Did you ask for James Bruce?
A. I did.

Q What did the person interrogated answer?
A Mrs Nugent who opened the door said walk in, Mr Bruce is not in, Mrs B is.

Q What was Mrs B doing when you saw her?
A Sitting at the table with others.

Q Did Mrs B remain in the house all the evening?
A No Sir.
