Q Why then did you sign the petition?
A I signed it because I was informed that Union Surgeons were not allowed to visit the Hospital.
Q 5 Who gave you that information?
A Dr. Thos. Griffith.
Note Mr Wallace desired to say, that had he have known Dr. Bell had been in the Service, he would not have signed [[left margin]] 10 [[/left margin]] the petition.

Q Do you know James Bruce late clerk in the Bureau?
A Yes sir.
Q 15 Did he ever take any Gov't whisky from the drug room?
A Yes sir. He had some drams. I think he had a pocket flask once.
Q 20 Did you every see him under the influence of liquor?
A Cant say positively that he was drunk, but he frequently looked like he had liquor in him.
Q Did you ever refuse him whisky?
A 25 Yes sir, after Dr Bell ordered me not to issue any more, cant tell what he said,
