Furnishes copy of papers relating to the seizure by the Asst Com'r of La. of 7 bales of cotton belonging to him, from which it appears that Medbery worked the "Home" & "Beauchamp" plantations in W. Feliciana Parish La. that the said seven bales were indeed on "Home" plantation but [[?]] cut on the "Beauchamp" plantation, that the regulations in the Beauchamp place had bills against for supplies furnished by a Mr Wilson, dry goods merchant at St. Francisville W. Feliciana Parish, & that said cotton was seized [[?]] [[?]] [[?]] by U.S. Troops, on the order of Lt. A. M. Massie, Agent of the Bureau of Refugees, &c. for said parish, & [[?]] [[?]] in favor of Mrs Wilcox & Messrs Heath & Daniels of New Orleans; that Med[[?]] was promising he would show that he had paid the negroes on the Beauchamp plantation what was due them & would file [[?]] to pay the negroes on the Home plantation what he owed them. the said cotton would be restored to him or its value, if sold; that he furnished said receipts & bonds but did not [[?]] not [[?]] either the cotton or its value; & that he has repeated but ineffectually, protested against said seizure [[?]] as required to himself, the negroes on said "Home" plantation, the [[?]] cotton. |
