SAWYER *In United States Service December 17th, 1945. Dear Mr. Seligmann: The Institute is putting on a show of twentieth century Spanish painting late in January and Gris is, of course, included. I should like to get hold of a photograph of the artist if it is possible, and I wonder if you still have in your files the photograph you reproduced in your catalog of 1938. We should be very grateful if you could have a photograph made of this photograph so that we can use it in our own small catalog, naturally crediting you for the courtesy. If you can help us out we should be much obliged. Of course you will send us a bill. You don't happen to know, do you, whether Gris ever made a self portrait of himself, and whether reproduction of it has ever appeared in print? If you can give me any information which would lead to the discovery of such a picture, you would be doing us a very good turn. Thanking you in advance, I am TNM/C Yours very sincerely, Thomas N. Metcalf Secretary Mr. Jacques Seligmann 5 East 57th Street New York, New York.
