Mr. Germain Seligmann,
c/o Jacques Seligmann & Co., Inc.,
3 East 51st St.,
New York City

Dear Mr. Seligmann:

It occurs to me to ask what you would consider the present probable sales value of my Stuart portrait of Facius.

I gather from your letter that you think it may have gone off from the $8000 figure you put onto it in April and I wonder what you think it has now gone down to, whether $7000, $6000 of just what.

I need your best guess on that in order to guide me with reference to the next steps I may take in connection with that painting. I take it that you yourself are to be counted out until the world once more gets back to something approximating normal.

Yours very truly,

WS. Appleton

P.S. It is really a question of the proper insurance that it is wise to put on it.
