Mr. Germain Seligmann,
c/o Jacques Seligmann & Co., Inc.,
3 East 51st St.,
New York City

Dear Mr. Seligmann:

The world is certainly a different place now from what it was when I talked over the possible sale of my portrait by Gilbert Stuart.

Accordingly I am calling the picture back from the expressman and shall not trouble you about it again until the world once more settles down into something approximating normal, which, let us hope, it may do during our lifetime, although concerning that there is at the moment an element of doubt.

Sincerely yours,

W. Sumner Appleton
