CABLE ADDRESS: MUSART CLEVELAND

Dear Mr. Seligmann:

I am replying at once to your letter which arrived this morning. The plot certainly is as good as a detective story and I shall await with great interest anything further you may find on the subject.

I wonder if it could have been possible the sale was held for inheritance purposes, as you suggest, and Madame Barret-Decap bought back the picture at the sale; either that, or the sale was never held. It will be interesting to unravel the matter.

Thank you for spending so much time on it. I realize one cannot be too be careful; I just never put two and two together when I quoted Imbourg from Formes. At the time I was more interested in what he had to say about the picture than I was in checking dates, and since I didn't put the list of collections in a note in my article, I didn't check the dates of the loans to the various exhibitions, which certainly should have been done. it is one of those instances which teaches one how careful one should be.

With best regards.

Sincerely yours,
Henry Sayles Francis
