New York, New York.

My dear Mr. Seligmann:

Now that I am back from Canada I wanted to write you at the first moment and tell you how happy I am over the outcome of the Goya. The picture had been brought to our attention three or four times by Mr. Parsons and pushed with a good deal of energy by him, so that when the time came to make final negotiations with you it seemed only fair that we should take them up through Mr. Parsons. I wanted to explain this to you so that you would understand the reason for it.

Although Mr. Parsons is no longer a member of our staff, the fact that he served us so well for so many years, means that we still retain relationship with him and he often brings fine things to our attention which are not suitable for either Kansas City or Omaha.

We are now expecting the arrival of the picture and will be looking forward to it. It will be the first purchase we have made from a new find that has come to us this last year, and it will be necessary to take the income for two years to pay for it, but the feeling of the Trustees was that the first purchase from this fund should be an outstanding one. We are willing to forego purchases in the near future to acquire a picture of this quality. The trustees did something that they have almost never done before in borrowing on future income, but I think this time it is justified.

In one of your letters you spoke about an invoice. I believe it would be better if you would send us one so that we have it for our records, and then we will pay at the time designated, at the end of March.

Again we are very much indebted to you for another fine picture, which has come to us through your good offices.

With kindest regards,

Sincerely yours,

William M. Milliken
