Dear Mr. Milliken:

How disappointed I was to hear that I had missed your good visit a couple of days ago. Unfortunately I had an important engagement in the late afternoon, which deprived me of the pleasure of seeing you.

As long as I have an opportunity of writing to you I am wondering whether you could give me any information about a portrait by INGRES which I understand some ten years ago was in the possession of Mr. and Mrs. Perry W. Harvel [[Harvey]], 11801 Lake Shore Boulevard, Cleveland. I also was told that this painting had been on exhibition at your museum. I am naturally interested in such a portrait. Should you not be able to answer me for some reason or other, in view of your official position, I would of course understand this perfectly well.

With renewed regrets and personal regards,

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Séligmann)
