ACTING AS AGENT FOR THE ESTATE OF CLARENCE H. MACKAY.

May 17th., 1940.

Dear Mr. Milliken:

It gives me much pleasure to confirm hereby the purchase made by the Cleveland Museum of Art of two "Mourners" or "Pleurants" from the group of four of the Clarence H. MACKAY collection, on the following terms - $27,500., cash.

An invoice covering this purchase will be mailed to you in due course.

May I call to your attention the fact that the check, which is to be mailed to us, should however be made out to the order of the "Estate of Clarence H. Mackay".

As has been agreed with Mr. H. S. Francis, these two statuettes will be delivered to you in Cleveland.

I am particularly pleased at this happy outcome of these lengthy negotiations and to know that these capital works have found a permanent abode in your museum.

Yours very sincerely,

(German Séligmann)
