Dear Mr. Milliken:

I was genuinely disappointed that I happened to be out of town the very day you called here, and I am so sorry to have missed your visit. I furthermore understand that neither my cousin René Seligmann nor Mr. Waegen was here to welcome you.

I don't know whether you have been told about the Odysseys of Bob, who is more or less stranded for a while at least in the Pacific Ocean and of our good friend César, who in France had to report to the Military authorities. However a cable received a few days ago gives me to understand that you can expect him shortly here. If I say 'you' and not 'we' it is because I myself am waiting to be called at any moment to take up my post in France.

Looking forward nevertheless to seeing you again before this happens, and with renewed regrets not to have been here when you called, and with personal regards, I am

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Séligmann)
