Dear Germain:

It was nice to have a letter from you and how good to think that you are off with Ethlyne for a good vacation! I can believe that your European trip was hectic. I rather gather from reports that that has been the experience with several people. Mr. Milliken goes to Europe in mid-August for six weeks to two months. We are leaving this week for Vermont where we will be with my mother-in-law until Labor Day. I, myself, don't expect to be in New York until later in the fall.

I had the occasion, through the kindness of Miss Wheelwrights, to see the galley of your forthcoming book. She hoped that I could say something which she could use in connection with it. Unfortunately, there was so little time that I was unable to read the galley carefully and, consequently, was not in a position to send her any remarks. Subsequently, however, I did read carefully through the book and I commend you! It is both timely and useful, and more than that, it is very interesting in its basic theme which you have developed most convincingly. I hope that later on when the book is published that I can review it and make up for what I am unable to do now.

One matter of business which I would like to ask you about is this. Back in 1949 when we acquired the Guardis from you, you remarked at the time (letter of 5-7-49) that there would be data about the pictures and some information which would be supplied by Mr. Jacob Goldschmidt. To my knowledge, no such information has ever come, although perhaps I did not see it if it did come; at least I cannot find anything subsequent to the original material which came at the time of the purchase. If there is anything further, of course, I shall be glad to hear it.

With warm regards to you both,

Ever sincerely,
Henry
