WILLIAM MATHEWSON MILLIKEN, DIRECTOR CABLE ADDRESS: MUSART CLEVELAND

October 31, 1951

Dear Germain:

Once again may I thank you for the many kindnesses while I was in New York this past week. It was wonderful to have so many opportunities to be with you and Ethlyne.

Of course, I was bowled over by the Redon show, and during the short time that I had to talk to the Director before he left town, I gave him to understand what a beautiful group of pictures they are. Unfortunately, I don't think he will go to New York, since he has to be back here and can only remain in Wilmington for a day.

This will let you know that I got the gold here safely, and he is very keen about it and will communicate with you later in regard to it. Since it is his department, it is now in his hands. Could you send him brief data about it also.

As far as the Courbet is concerned, I want to talk to him further before I ask you to send it. But I am very anxious to have the picture. I called Leonard on Saturday afternoon, but didn't get him. However, he will be in Cleveland at a not too distant date, and I will talk to him then. Unfortunately, it will be before I shall have gone to Pittsburgh--that doesn't matter. I do hope you will talk to him about the Ingres portrait.

Again with many thanks and best to you and Ethlyne.

As ever,
