DESCRIPTION:

LAGNEAU, Nicolas (1590-1666)

PORTRAIT OF A MAN.

Black and red crayon and ink drawing: 4" x 3-1/4"

Bust portrait of an old man facing front. He has a white mustache and white, square beard. Except for the tufts of gray, frizzed hair at his temples, his head is bald. He wears a jacket buttoned up the front, with a wide collar that spreads overs his shoulders. The square face and wide shoulders give the impression of a heavy-set man.

Collections: L. Deglatigny (marking lower left)
Georges Dormeuil

Price...........$200.
(Two Hundred Dollars)

Note: There is scarcely a doubt that this drawing is of the same group as those by Lagneau in the Château de Chantilly.
