Clarksville Tenn. Dec. 6th 1866.

Rev. D. Burt.
Supt. Ed. &c.

Rev & Dear Sir,

Yours of the 3d inst, was received yesterday. I should have answered by return of mail - but waited to get definite information from Providence. In the meanwhile Providence has furnished me other work to do. To-day, during the noon - [[recess?]], while the teachers and the majority of the scholars were absent - our church - building, slipped off its supports, and sank down into the excavation we had just finished for the basement school-rooms. Fortunately no person was hurt, The house is considerably strained, but not very much injured. It will take some days to get things righted, and intercept our [[freeway?]] & inter mediate departments, perhaps two weeks. Recommenced repairs within an hour after the accident, and will go on with energy, not withstanding our own chagrin, and the triumphs of the enemies of the cause.

My elder has just been in council with me. He informs me that the colored people in P. have a house in view which they hope to secure. If they succeed, I will let you know its condition & the probable cost of any alterations that may be needed. - We will have to look to the Lord for help to repair our own damages.

I am Dear Sir. Very Truly Yours [[a haute?]]
E.M Kinney.
