Yours of Jun 8th came to hand yesterday and in reply would say with regard to the Thompson McKinley therein mentioned, that I believe that Capt Walsh as also yourself have formed a correct and just opinion of the character and intentions of the man so far as regards his interest claimed for the Colored people of Carthage. This McKinley made me a visit on Monday and Tuesday last and and urged me to exercise my influence towards securing an appropriation from the Genl to forthwith proceed to establish a School in Carthage.
