I think that Soc. must be either poor or else it only undertakes to provide teachers & their maintenance.
You speak of the size of this place. It is not very large but there are many freedmen here & for miles around in the country they have become interested in this work & on Sunday afternoons my Church is almost crowded with numbers who have just began to believe that this sole effort in the County on their behalf, will "be a be" as one of them expressed it the other day.
I do not think I am asking you for too much. I do believe if you desire to accomplish the most possible good with what you expend, that the seed will bring "a hundred fold" here. Do urge Gen. Howard who I know has the cause at heart to appropriate the $700 and verily the blessing of God will be with it. I will be compelled I fear to stop the work if I cannot raise the funds & I know not where else now to go. But I trust yet by the help of God to carry it on at once. Answer at once if possible
