Jonesboro Tenn; February 11th 1867

Rev. D. Burt
Dear Sir
I acknowledge the receipt of your favor of February 7th. I have not yet made the acquaintance of Mrs Deake but I shall seek to make it today and shall inform him of the contents of your letter The delay of the teacher is a cause of regret to me. I am not giving some instruction to a man who since Christmas has been here on expense and who is very desirous of receiving construction.
Lt. Col. Church informs me that he has forwarded to the Commissioner my application for transportation to Rogersville. I learn that there is in that time as large a population as in this and that there is a great desire felt to obtain teachers. If permitted to visit Rogersville I would stop at Greenville on my return. If it is thought best that I should not go, I will communicate by letter with one or two leading men in Rogersville
I am, dear Sir,
very respectfully
Your obedient Servant,
