of the souls I am desirous to save. I wish them to be educated not only to elevate them morally & mentally but spiritually. I want them to read their Bibles to learn their catechism, and to read good books.
 
I do not consider a merely intellectual training as a blessing for either white or black - and while their minds are taught in the Day School I shall endeavor by the grace of God to instruct their souls, so many as will come on Sundays to be instructed.

I am anxious yet earnest in this matter from the duty I owe them as a minister of Christ. God knows my heart, & that I receive nothing in the world for what I do for them, but an approving conscience & the confident expectation of His approving smile in the great day of reckoning -
