Rev. D. Burt,

Dear Sir: -

In a letter just received from Mr. Cravath he declines to commission us to return to Smyrna. It will be a great disappointment to the colored people if some teachers are not sent there this fall. And for their sakes, I can not think of entering upon any other work until I have made every possible endeavor to return. In a former letter Mr. Cravath spoke of hoping to receive something from the State School Fund of Tennessee. Can you tell me what prospect there is of "N.T'D"

Transcription Notes:
I don't understand the last word in the letter, but transcribed it the way it looks.
