Judg Hurst

Dear Sir

I have made out the inclosed report by request of Mrs. Burleyson She is verry sick, She states to me that the Freedman are unable to pay anough to pay her bord and thinks that unless some help can be got she will have to discontinue the School, but said she will go on one month longer. There is in this Town and visinity about sixty children between the ages of 6 & 20 that would go to school if they ware able to pay. The white population gives us no aide or encouragement in fact the school has no freinds among the Whit Citizens except Mrs. Burleyson & myself.

Yours truly
Thos Maxwell

Transcription Notes:
The writer does not have good spelling, thus the greeting says "Judg" instead of "Judge" Hurst. There are several misspellings in the image.
