Dear Sir, I am happy to have the privilege of opening a correspondence with you I have the honor of acknowledging your favor of date Sept 2d also posted the same. My delay of answering is caused as follows, &, circumstances connecting to wit - L.B. Polk is my name. I am a member of the ME Church & from Clinton Co Ohio came to this state for the purpose of teaching Freedman's School, but not sent by any Church come with my, and at my own will & exspence. I got my clothing (& my money in it) miscarried or Stolen. I arrived at Memphis 7 weeks ago last Saturday morning, had but $1.50 I work 2 week then by & through Bro W.H. Pearne of Memphis I was sent to Brownsvill to take charge of C.S.
