[[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]] Writes relative to frauds practiced by St Clair Mandeville (deceased) Agent of Bureau R.F. & A.L. in payment of bounties &c to soldiers, mentions case of Jesse Hodd Pvt "B" Co 84 U.S.C.I. as an example, and asks if there no remedy for these frauds except in the Court of Claims See L.B. Whittelsey, AAAG., with information that the amount of the defalcation referred to within, as near as thus far ascertained, was $18,074.34, of which $9,571.05 have been recovered and paid to the rightful claimants, excepting $123.94, now in the hands of the Disbursing Officer at New Orleans, La., awaiting application of the person entitled.
