quantities from one Bale to ten and more promising to make returns and settle with the parties not later than March of this year. They shipped the Cotton to Messrs Rowland & Co of Cincinnati Ohio.

Since that time they have never returned to Mooresville, left about the first of March 1869

They in some cases gave the parties about one third of the value of the cotton they took.

I wrote to the Hallums when I heard the statement from one Samuel Sluddlefoot, who said they had from him Eleven Bales of Cotton, giving him about four hundred dollars as part payment. They replied denying it positively. 

Since then the other parties have been to see me, confirming the charge by making a similar statement
