WAR DEPARTMENT,
Bureau Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
Washington, Augt 31st 1869.

Respectfully returned to Bvt Maj J.M. Whittemore
It would seem from the representations within that Sergt Ivers is justly entitled to compensation for actual expenses incurred in the discharge of duty. But this Bureau cannot pay his account for "extra services."
If however he will forward a full statement of the facts, and his account of expenses for Forage, rations &c, certified to with the enclosed papers, every effort will be made to get his claim approved.
