Sir,

I very respectfully beg leave to submit through you, the following for the consideration of the Colonel Commanding.

I was detailed on D.D. on the 4th of March '68 by the Commdg Officer of this Post for the purpose of inspecting the places of destitute freedmen as it is directed in Circular No. 3 C S from Head Quarters Dist: of Florida., B R F & A.L., and did these duties to the satisfaction of my Superior Officers:  I never received any compensation for it, although I expended a good amount of my own money, as it was impossible for me to carry rations, and forage for the horse for 8 days at a time, or for any number of days, with me; and was often compelled to purchase food for myself and Forage for said Govt. horse, out of my slender pay [[proper?]].

I have seen in Pay: M: Manual for 1867 a paragraph that:  Every enlisted man longer employed than 10 days on D D. was entittled to extra duty pay.

I therefore respectfully request that the Colonel Commanding may grant me for
