The slaves of Maryland were made free by state constitutional enactment November 1st 1864, but Ellen Wills preferred to remain with her former owner (Richard Price and his family) and continued to do so until she died, not "in April last," but in March 1868. Mr. and Mrs Price took good care of Ellen Wills while in failing health and kindly provided for her wants medical and otherwise. They nursed her while sick, paid the Doctor's bills, and funeral expenses. 

They have also taken care of and had all the expense of raising the aforesaid children from their earliest infancy to the present time. - Ellen, the mother, while in failing health, requested these kind people, Mr and Mrs Price and their children to take care of her children after her death. They promised her to do so and I believe they have faithfully performed their promise. The ages of the children are six (6) seven and a half (7 1/2) and nine (9) years.
