Plainfield Indiana 10 mo 23rd 1869

To O O Howard

Respected Friend
Being about to reopen the Freedmens schools, I write to ask for transportation from Indianapolis Ind. to Macon Miss. for the following teachers, who leave (Indianapolis according to arrangements) on the ninth day of next month. VIZ Eleazer Bales, Esther Bales, Mary J Elliott, Emily Haworthe, Amos Saunders and one other.

Or what would suit the teachers better if it suits the Bureau to allow us the amount of transportation at government rates in money and we send them by the Indianapolis & Terre Haute & St Louis & Terre Haute to Mattoon Ills. thence by the Chicago branch of the Ills Central to Cairo and so by the Mobile & Ohio R.R. to Macon, which would be the speediest route.

Respectfully,
John T Wood
C.S. of F.C. of Western Yearly Meeting of Friends
