Bureau Refugees Freedmen & AL.
State of Tennessee
Office Asst Com'r. & Supt of Education
Nashville Tenn, Jan 12/1869.

Respectfully forwarded to Maj. General O.O. Howard, Commissioner, BRF & AL Washington, D.C.

This teacher loses her salary for Septbr and October ($60 00/100) because my application for her employment was made to General Carlin, just at the time of the reception of orders to cease the "rental system". I respectfully ask that an increase of $10 00/100 per month be made in her case for six months from Novbr 1st 1868, through Dr. Hatfield, as I know of no other way of rendering justice to this worthy teacher.

She has taught for two years and was paid regularly, prior to the summer vacation.

James Thompson,
Bvt Lieut Col. U.S.A.
Asst Comm'r. & Supt of Ed.
