the fact of his temperature being down is most encouraging - there is no word about his liver.

The whole trouble is from the wound - & if he were younger they would make a different outlet & he would get well right away. As it is they want to see him get stronger & then will consider making another drain lower down

it would not be much, & the Dr says they could give him some morphia & then a very little ether & then make a new incision - & be [[crossed out]] in [[/crossed out]] sure the wound would then clear off. This would not be the large thing they would like to do which I judge they do not even dream of - but what he considers quite possible if Uncle W. gains strength as he now promises to do. Don't worry now - fore there is no prospect for some time of anything
