Mrs.Nicauber conversing about "papa and mama" and "the family," in the way she mentions her house and her habits.
The doctor has not arrived so I can give no authoritative report of myself, though Miss Faucher made a great show of counting my pulse this morning, with a watch which I, unjustly I suppose, could not help suspecting of having stopped. 
She has a very amusing way of trying very hard to convince you of something which you have just convinced her of. Last night for instance she asked me what I would have for supper. I said I could fancy some milk toast. O, she said, the doctor had said only peppy
