Lecture, 3 p.m., Patricia Cruz, Explorations and Interactions: African-American Artists, the Museum and the World - Cruz, Deputy Director for programs at The Studio Museum in Harlem, will give this slide presentation on issues related to the exhibition Explorations in the City of Light. Stern Auditorium, free with Museum admission.

Concert, 2 p.m., Dr. Michael White and the Original Liberty Jazz Band - This ensemble will perform a special concert in honor of the centennial of the birth of Sidney Bechet, the world-famous New Orleans jazz musician and composer who live and worked many years in Paris. Stern Auditorium, free with Museum admission. This concert is sponsored by Philip Morris Companies Inc. and Miller Brewing Company.
Lecture, 3:30 p.m., Dr. Irina Costache, ...But is it Art? - if Van Gogh, Monet and Picasso are considered great artists, should a painting by Andy Warhol or Jackson Pollock have less value because is appears "easier" to create? Dr. Costache, a professor of art history at Loyola University, will present a slide lecture on contemporary art and its challenge to the viewer of what is and is not art. Stern Auditorium, free with admission. 

Sunday, September 29
Festival, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., A Community of Artists Family Festival - This family fun time will be on the grounds outside the Museum and will feature works by young New Orleans artists as well as music, food and children's activities. Free to the public, reduced admissions to NOMA.

Family Workshop, 2 to 4 p.m., Dish It Up: Imperial Platters - In Imperial Russian Porcelains, dishes and other vessels are the backdrop for dazzling designs, intricate patters and delicate scenes. Participants will create their own imperial platters. Workshop cost is $5 per family for Museum members or $6 per family plus the cost of admission for non-members. Fees include all art materials.
