2. Does this mean #I version was not on canvas?
3. Canvas version, he is saying, was not stretched, but was glued onto a rigid tri-wall support.

Phil, I have to check with Dick (my assistant) - horrible thought that after Jack's 1st stretches #1-13, we built the flat versions with 2x3's forming support structure & perimeter for flat tri-wall base, so we could cut and paste (esp. trim) collage materials canvas, felt, & paper more easily - especially because of colored canvas shrinkage with water based glue. In fact, it may have started earlier, e.g.
