Mr. Henry Geldzahler
Consultant for the Visual Arts
National Endowment for theArts
1800 G Street, N.W.
Washington, D.C.

Dear Henry:

What a good idea! You know as well as I that it would be a fine thing to equip Tatyana Grosman for work in the etching field. The work she has accomplished in lithography in the last ten years has changed the life of that medium in the minds of artists and public. The experiments and innovations accomplished in her studio are, as far as I know, unmatched anywhere else and certainly have set new standards in the field.

I've worked with Mrs. Grosman for six or seven years and during that time she has convinced a large number of prominent American artists to share her enthusiasm for lithography, and we have all been influenced by her distinctive attitude toward the medium. If the Endowment helps her to begin work in etching, surely we can expect to see new life there too.

Sincerely,

Jasper Johns
