Phil'a Dec 16th

My own dear Phebe—

Since I did not write to thee all last week I surely must not let today slip by with out a few words of love to my dear dear friend - even though the many letters. I have to accomplish today - should prevent my saying half I want - I am very very busy just now - much more so than usual. So forgive if my letters are more scarce than usual. You too are busy I doubt not dear - and wearying yourself with many cares for the comfort and happiness of those who are so fortunate as [[crossed out]] t [[/crossed out]] to have the sweet bonds - since they have taught me so much of life and love. “It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” - I have little to tell thee of myself this week - some stiff Phil'a - tea drinking & that I detest from my heart - I have thought much of [[M's ?]] anxiety - during these hard times. Do tell me all you can about him. Give my love to him and tell I see by the pet’s letters - he is up to his old tricks throwing cold water on the Christmas - preparations - naughty man - I hope they will prove to him that he cant quench the fun— Give my love to all these dear children - and oh my precious one - how can I tell thee all the tender affection of Thy Fidelia.
