Mr. George Grey Barnard,

New York City.

Dear Sir:

I am very much obliged to you for your letter of April 16th, and while I realize the difficulty which you have met with in the execution of the bust, on account of the imperfect photograph, I hope that you will do the very best you can with it. I would not have you send us, of course, anything that is unworthy of your art, and I know that you will not do so. But this photograph is the very best that can be secured and, therefore, I trust that you will make the very best of it that is possible. I am particularly anxious not only to have bust of this person, but also to have a specimen of your work here in our capitol.

Very truly yours,

R.D.W. Connor
