Mr. George Grey Barnard,
454 Fort Washington Avenue,
New York City.

My dear Mr. Barnard:-

Are you familiar with the Barthelemy Rey collection in Paris? This has been recently offered to us, 657 pieces for about $450,000, and if I were sure that the pieces were fine and by far the larger part of them real Museum pieces I should make an effort to raise the fund among the American Museums to acquire the collection. It occurs to me that you are probably quite familiar with it and that you would be willing to give me your opinion as to its quality.

I have still been hoping that you would hear from your Italian in France and that the plan which you outlined at that time might still be carried through, or that something more might be learned about the cloister, regarding which we have talked.

I have recently succeeded in securing a considerable sum for purchases and exploration in the Orient and feel that the money can be raised for work in France if some definite proposition can be made.

Very truly yours,

F. Allen Whiting
Director.
