"PAN" - BY BARNARD.
[Copyrighted. 1897. by G. C. Cox, Photographer. By Permission of the Century Co

Chicago takes just pride in the honors that are constantly being bestowed upon her townsman, George Grey Barnard, the sculptor. He has been the greatest success of the art season in New York, where he now resides. Two of his works have been purchased for new York. "Two Natures" will be placed in the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Arts; "Pan," designed for a fountain, will occupy a position of prominence in Central Park. Mr. Barnard's works have been commented upon in magazine articles, and the critics of New York are enthusiastic in their praise of all that he has done. One critic asserts that "they who understand the difficulties of the technical side of the art cannot but be amazed at the power shown by this young artist in the modeling of his figures, and they will readily concede that few men of our time have so skillfully handled the chisel and so vigorously in some instances, so gracefully in others, rendered the living quality of the human face and figure."
