America has not produced in its whole history a truly first-class archiect [[architect]], poet, philosopher, statesman, composer or writer of any deep perception or real stature. This civilization has not come close to producing a cathedral of Chartres. Russia has not done much better, so what is it all about?
   
Our greatest need might be a sense of humore [[humor]]. If we could stand back and give a great roar of laughter at what we have wrought, we might have instant peace. Politicians, no matter of which country, are almost entirely devoid of humor, and sincerely believe that what they are doing makes sense. 

From my experience, the person-to-person relationships would make the whole concept so easy, as many of my dearest friends have been Russian, with almost a brotherhood relationship: Ivan, my Russian composer friend, Varia and Volodia - Varia from Moscow and Volodia from Irkutsk -, Marika, whose forebears hundreds of years ago were from Scotland, and one of her family later helped turn back Napoleon at the gates of Moscow. Relationships are so easy and could be in the future, but it does require a communication which is so often lacking.

There must be a driving force.

Political systems without inspiration or even aspiration seem to fail.  Politicians almost without exception are psychic zilches, and truth is far from their objectives. What a great waste, with so little to show for our efforts. This civilization will probably go down in history as that which accomplished the least with the most.

A great transformation is possible, with all of the practical ingredients to make it work. It will have to be a true revolution, a revolution of the soul, silently changing night into day, devastation into construction, horror into beauty. It can make the previous revolutions of the last several centuries seem childish and inadequate. It is a true transformation and revolution, and can be had for almost the asking. 

To build small points of light in the descent of darkness might be the practical way, as they can grow and grow. We stand on the edge of a deathless sea.....
